Over 56,500 people watched the Nexus Gaming victory over OneTap Gaming on Digital Crusade’s YouTube and Twitch channels. Even in the build-up to the final, it was shaping up to be an extremely close one, and the show put on by the two teams did not disappoint.
Before the final, the audience was able to watch a demonstration match featuring some of the most popular influencers of the moment. JaxiTV’s team formed of Jaxi, Romani, Keta, PopTheCaster, and AlexaTV took on Spicy Legend’s team formed of Spicy, imoGen, Palash, Tedereu, and Tak3MyFury.
Also, in a special moment dedicated to the final, Cătălin Moroșanu faced ImoGen at Mortal Kombat, the popular fighting game from NetherRealm Studios. It was a very exciting battle, an opportunity for the audience to see how an established athlete handles himself when put in the position of a gamer. These moments set the scene for the grand finale and were a fitting “appetizer” for what was to follow.
In the Superbet Open grand finale, Nexus Gaming managed to defeat OneTap Gaming 3-2, in a best-of-five where Nexus started 1-0 (after winning the playoff stage with double elimination). Although Nexus took an early lead, winning the first map, OneTap showed tremendous team spirit. Leading 2-0 overall, the team from Satu Mare managed to win two consecutive cards and draw level, bringing the score to 2-2. In the end, Nexus Gaming came out on top, winning the last map of the best-of-five final and bringing the score to 3-2. The atmosphere was euphoric, and the suspense was at home.
For Nexus Gaming, this was their first win at the Superbet Open, a hard-earned victory over a team, OneTap Gaming, who managed to surprise and delight the underdog crowd with a tremendous comeback in the match.
The Superbet Open final marks the end of a long journey, a journey in which the best Counter-Strike players in Romania participated. The teams’ journey throughout the tournament offered us surprises such as Quantum Prodigy’s overachieving performance, the failure to qualify for the play-off for several consecrated teams, and of course, the magnificent final offered by Nexus and OneTap Gaming.
